Climate Calculator

Greenhouse gases cause global warming. The ongoing climate change influences the nature and human life in many ways. Our way of life creates the most of the greenhouse gas emissions. The most important green house gases are carbon dioxide and methane. The proportion of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in all greenhouse gases is 80%.

The Climate Calculator is a web application designed to help offices, properties and individuals measure greenhouse gas emissions and find ways of reducing them. The user friendly tool helps to evaluate emissions from heat and electricity consumption, travelling, transportation, paper consumption and waste.

The data needed can be easily found in the organizations’ accounting figures and invoices. The calculator can be very useful in designing concrete measures for reducing emissions and costs. This version of Climate Calculator is fully equipped to use only Finnish data because it is based on Finnish national emission factors.

The calculator is originally designed in co-operation with WWF Finland, Motiva Oy and the Helsinki University of Technology Lifelong Learning Institute Dipoli. In addition, experts from many organizations have made a significant contribution to the development of this tool. Calculator has gone through development during 2009, and this work is done in co-operation with HSY (Helsinki Region Environmental Services Authority) and SYKE (Finland’s environmental administration). Project has gained EU Life+ -funding.
